What is IFTA & Do You Need it?

What is IFTA?

The International Fuel Tax Agreement — also known as IFTA — is a fuel tax collection and sharing agreement for the redistribution of fuel taxes paid by interstate commercial carriers.

So, Who Needs IFTA?

📎Truck has two axles and a gross vehicle weight (GVW) exceeding 26,000 pounds or has three or more axles.

📎Transport goods across different states

📎Truck with a trailer and their combined weight exceeds 26,000 pounds.

How do I report the information?

Carriers submit a quarterly tax return to their base state that covers motor fuel usage and the distance traveled in IFTA member jurisdictions for all their qualified vehicles.

The due dates for filing a tax return and submitting payment are the last day of April, July, October, and January.
