How to Link your DOT Number to MOTUS

Instructions on How to Link your DOT Number to MOTUS:

*MAKE SURE YOU REGISTER USING THE SAME EMAIL ADDRESS THAT YOU USED WHEN YOU INTIALLY GOT YOUR DOT NUMBER.

➨Go to motus.dot.gov and select Sign In Login.gov under the Regulated Entities & Supporting Companies section. Enter your credentials.

(IF YOU HAVE NEVER SET UP AN ACCOUNT WITH LOGIN.GOV, THEN CLICK THE BUTTON THAT SAYS CREATE AN ACCOUNT)

(IF YOU DO NOT REMEMBER YOUR LOGIN.GOV PASSWORD, CLICK THE BUTTON THAT SAYS FORGOT PASSWORD)

➨Complete Identity Verification:

Have a government ID ready.

Accept the IT Rules of Behavior. To protect your records, the system will prompt you to verify your identity.

If on a computer: Scan the on-screen QR code with your smartphone.

If on a mobile device: Click the provided camera hyperlink.

Take a photo of your valid government-issued ID (Driver's License or Passport) and complete the facial verification scan

➨ Build Your Personal User Profile:

Your name will lock to your ID.

             Fill out your personal contact details.

➨Initiate the USDOT Claim:

Look for the system pop-up.

Once your profile is set up, a pop-up notice should appear indicating that one or more USDOT numbers are associated with your Login.gov account. Click "Link USDOT Number" to start the import.

(If you don't see a pop-up, choose "Link an Existing USDOT Number" from your main workflow dashboard).

➨Select and Verify via Email Code:

              Check your inbox.

Review the list of associated numbers, check the box next to your specific USDOT number, and click Continue. The system will send a secure verification code to your Login.gov email. Enter that code into the Motus window and click Submit.

➨ E-Sign the First Certification:

Legal Authorization.

Read the Certification Statement verifying you are the owner, an authorized corporate officer, or a partner. Type your name as your electronic signature and click Accept. Your account status will briefly show a Pending Certification Notice—click Close to access your dashboard.

➨Review, Update, and Finalize:

Crucial for compliance.

Carefully look over your imported business details (legal name, DBA, principal place of business, phone, and email). If everything looks perfect, click the orange Certify banner at the top of the page.

Accept the final USDOT Claiming Certification Statement. A confirmation pop-up will appear indicating your account is fully active.

If you receive an error and cannot successfully complete the linking process, then you will need to contact FMCSA.
